ATTN Deceiving Legislation:
Have you heard of the Hunting Heritage and Environmental Legacy Preservation for Wildlife Act (S. 1514)? The bill was introduced on June 30 by Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.). The legislation is currently supported by Texas Trophy Hunters Association and many similar groups. This is considered bipartisan legislation and would, increase public access for sportsmen and women, improve fish and wildlife habitat, and reauthorize funding for fish and wildlife conservation programs. Also other pro-sportsmen provisions include reaffirming the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) rule to remove gray wolves from the Endangered Species Act in the Great Lakes and Wyoming, and return the management of these populations to state wildlife agencies. This bill, deceivingly does nothing to “help” imperiled gray wolves. Besides stripping protections from gray wolves in the Great Lakes region, this bill also bars any legal challenges to this delisting or the delisting of Wyoming’s wolf population – this means they could never be challenged in court!
